North Providence, Rhode Island lies in the northwest corner of the thriving Providence Metro Area. With a 2000 Census population reported at 32,411, North Providence offers a charming small-town atmosphere, directly in the shadow of the big city.

Rhode Island divides its five counties into four Superior Court jurisdictions: Kent, Washington, Newport, and Providence/Bristol (with Providence/Bristol comprising one jurisdiction). Rhode Island's unified state court system, the Superior Court, has original jurisdiction in all of Providence County’s felony proceedings, in civil suits where claims exceed $10,000, and in matters of equity.  The Superior Court also hears appeals on civil and criminal cases from the Providence County District Court. (Civil suits with claims from $5,000-$10,000 may be heard by the Superior Court or Providence County District Court.) Any appeal from a decision rendered in Superior Court is taken directly to the Rhode Island Supreme Court.

If you have a personal injury case, a judge will hear your claim in civil court. This FAQ's section gives you information about civil lawsuits. If you are confused about the terms you hear while in court, you may find this list of common legal terms handy. Once you've gone through a trial, you may have the right to appeal your personal injury case to the Rhode Island Superior Court or the Rhode Island Supreme Court.

North Providence, RI incorporated as a town in 1765, though Europeans began settling here in 1636. The neighborhoods of Centredale and Marieville, at one time small mill villages, today feature period lighting, and brick sidewalks with benches along tree-lined streets. The Fruit Hill Neighborhood Association works to raise money to restore their region in the same way. Other North Providence neighborhoods and villages include  Geneva, Allendale, Woodville, Lymansville, Louisquisset  and Greystone.

North Providence’s village of Geneva converted their abandoned mill, which was once the focus point of the neighborhood, into residential and commercial lofts, preserving the old charm while offering modern urban amenities. Known for their fine standards, some Geneva restaurants include Rodizio's Brazilian Steakhouse, Chi Chi’s Deli, and Carrie's Seafood: home of the three-pound lobster and award winning chowder. North Providence’s neighborhood of Louisquisset boasts its own private golf course and country club.

The North Providence Recreation Department offers a number of quality programs such as dance aerobics, teaching baseball diamond skills and school vacation camps. Youth enjoy a municipal skateboard park and pool.  Residents claim their own private beach at the Governor Notte Park.
