D.A.R.E. is a highly acclaimed program that gives kids the skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs, and violence. D.A.R.E. was founded in 1983 in Los Angeles and has proven so successful that it is implemented in 75 percent of America’s school districts and more than 43 countries worldwide. D.A.R.E. teaches children from kindergarten through 12th grade how to resist peer pressure and live productive, drug-free, and violence-free lives.

Squashbusters
SquashBusters is an after-school enrichment program for urban youth that combines squash, academics, and community service. Now in its 12th year, SquashBusters’ mission is to challenge and nurture urban youth so that they recognize and fulfill their potential. Its goals are to:
- Teach students to take responsibility for their actions and choices.
- Provide active educational experiences that motivate students to engage deeply with the learning process.
- Help students demonstrate good sportsmanship on and off the squash court.
- Promote understanding and friendships among people of different backgrounds.
- Engage students in service projects that help people and promote a commitment to the community.
Children’s Bicycle Helmet Safety Program
Community partners work with health professionals to provide children’s bicycle helmets. The program also offers safety education to eligible participants. Children are taught how a helmet should fit, how to wear it correctly, how to take care of it, and the importance of always wearing it.

Tomorrow Fund
The Tomorrow Fund was founded in 1985 to ease the traumatic emotional and financial effects of childhood cancer. It is the only non-profit organization that provides daily financial and emotional support to children with cancer who are treated at Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence. The Tomorrow Fund fulfills its mission through three major programs:
- Support for the Tomorrow Fund Clinic.
- Direct financial and emotional assistance to families of children in treatment at the clinic.
- Outreach to inform the community about the effects of childhood cancer.

Elmwood Little League
The Elmwood Little League is the largest baseball league in Providence, serving more than 650 boys and girls from Elmwood, Reservoir, and West End neighborhoods. The teams range in age from 6 to 16 years old. The volunteer youth program is one of the oldest and the biggest, with over 100 volunteers. They assist with coaching, maintain fields, and keep the league running smoothly.
